Sugar -

To Avoid Sugar:

Avoid processed foods that contain high-fructose corn syrup or other added sugars. These include soda, candy bars and desserts such as ice cream or cake. Limit fruit juices (even 100% juice) because they contain more sugar than whole fruit does. Instead of drinking juice at breakfast time, eat an orange instead!





Processed Foods -

Processed foods are the worst offenders when it comes to unhealthy eating habits. They're full of artificial ingredients and additives that can be harmful to your body, including high fructose corn syrup, trans fats and sodium nitrites.

Refined Grains -

Refined grains are a type of carbohydrate that have been processed to remove the bran and germ, which is where most of the nutrients are found in whole grains. Refined grains include white bread, pasta and rice--all common ingredients in many American diets.

Refined grains have been linked to increased risk for heart disease, diabetes and obesity because they're digested quickly by your body and cause blood sugar levels to spike rapidly (1). This can lead to cravings for more refined carbs later on in order to bring those levels back down again--a vicious cycle known as carb cycling or glycemic index cycling (2).





High Sodium Foods - 

High sodium foods are those that have more than 150mg of sodium per serving. These can be found in many processed foods, including:

  • It's also important to avoid these high-sodium foods when eating out at restaurants or fast food joints.
